Philosophy

     Ed. D. Program in Educational Studies aims at developing graduates into high-quality professional educators who can lead and innovate in educational practices and research. As visionary educational leaders, they can contribute to development of the country in the areas of the Education Reform, and particularly cope with changes in dimensions of society, politics, educational technology and internationalization.


Objectives


     Ed. D. Program in Educational Studies aims at producing graduates with the following characteristics:

     (1) Knowledgeable in educational theories and applications, research in education, leadership in organizational management, planning and adjustment for change.

     (2) Skilled in innovating and developing an in-depth body of knowledge and knowledge management , as well as using research and educational technology as tools for educational practices and professional contributions to the Education Reform of the country.

     (3) Visionary as educational leaders with determination in educational development that integrates Thainess into conflict management, tolerance for differences in viewpoints and ethical resolutions.

     (4) Competent and strategic in interpolating educational innovations, educational technology, and professional standards for well-being of the Thai educational context.

    Principles, theories, and processes in designing a curriculum and instructional devices responsive to the identified learning objectives for formal, non–formal, informal educational systems and training; measurement and evaluation of learning outcomes; study research findings about roles of computer technology and information systems for learning improvement; development of instructional media using data–base, electronic media, and the Internet, creation of learning community network; discussion of current educational issues on curriculum and instruction, e.g., learner-centered approaches, school-based curriculum; curriculum management and implementation; curriculum evaluation, including innovations in curriculum design and subject teaching.

   Administrative and leadership theories; the roles of leaders in program development, delivery and assessment; pupil and personnel service; human resource management; related law; resource allocation and management; context and perspectives for educational leaders; school reform; cultural diversity and community relations; school district organization structure and leadership; case study of successful school leadership; moral and ethical dimensions of leadership.

   Educational reform policy which requires a reform involving teachers and pupils; change management considerations in a period of educational reform; issues related to the transformation of management culture, teaching paradigms, cultures of learners; theoretical concepts of school management in the changing world; management for results,  fostering creativity and participation in relevant sectors.

EDU706 Strategic Planning for an Integrated Research Project in Education
   Analyze typical strategic development plans for a province, clusters of provinces, and for the nation; planning and submitting an educational research project on selected topics such as training and in-service development of teachers, instructional improvement, more effective use of learning resources for the improvement of pupil achievement. Research projects should take into account the needs of the particular organization and should show an integrated approach.

   The future educational trends, taking into consideration the changes that have occurred in world economics, society, politics, information technology, internationalization; impact of changes for strategic planning; defining goals, missions, policies, and strategies; implications for educational management at different levels; case studies.

   Examine the tools that can assist future planning; survey of the driving forces and uncertainties that make future plan increasingly difficult at each level of the educational system. Study various approaches aimed at reducing the risks associated with future planning through the use of case studies.

   The theories and principles of innovation in education management; roles of educators in dissemination and implementation of educational innovations; analyses and compare different forms of dissemination strategies; analyses problems associated with dissemination and implementation of innovations; design a dissemination and implementation strategy for a hypothetical innovation, and a method for evaluating the outcomes.

   Concepts about second language learning; the learning process, the relationship between second and first language learning; brain research on language acquisition; factors effecting the speed of second language learning, including the sound production and language structure; case studies and research findings.

   Comparative study of contemporary policies, curricula, teaching practices in first and second language programes in the Asian region and their relative effectiveness in respect   of improved performance; curriculum and instruction reform; measurement and evaluation; development of conceptual models of second language teaching that aim to assist learners to become effective communicators.

   Concepts and principles of learning and brain functions according to different learning theorists; application of learning theories in an effort to improve instructional effectiveness, e.g, Multiple Intelligence Theory, Information Processing Theory, Cognitive Load Theory, Conditions of Learning; case studies of applications of theories to practice in order to compare the advantages and limitations  of  each  theory

   Analysis of the processes by which E–learning courses are developed.
