Revitalization of Architecture and Community

(Abbr.) : M.S. (Conservation and Revitalization
of Architecture and Community)
Architecture and the social surroundings of
the community are a reflection of the cultural
uniqueness of the country. Thailand herself,
has numerous architectural structures with
high cultural and historical values. These
architectural gems are degenerating, failing
into ruins and sinking into oblivion with
each passing day. Similarly, the community
in each locality also has its own historical
background, unique way of life and individual
significance which is unable to evade from
the fate of changes caused by development.
To conserve and revitalize these architectures
and communities full of cultural and historical
values, implementation to preserve the unique
features and pride of the community and the
nation is, therefore, a matter of exigency.
Moreover, this will serve as an expression
of the strength of the Thai society and will
also help in tourist promotion in term of
cultural tourism.
During the economic crisis, several buildings
and construction works were effected which
resulted in the suspension of the construction
projects; construction sites lying waste,
plenty of spaces in the completed construction
projects or buildings had not been utilized.,
When the economy begins to pick up, it is
expected that utilization of these spaces
will begin to be put under a review, and there
might be changed in the purpose of usage and
a requirement for renovating and reconstructing
the buildings by the application of modern
technologies to meet the present-day demand
is very relevant.
In view of the above significance, the Department
of Architecture of Rangsit University is offering
the Master of Science Program in Conservation
and Revitalization of Architecture and Community
with the aims of producing Master degree graduates
possessing consciousness in the values of
the cultural heritage and capable of applying
the technical know-how appropriately in order
to cope with the needs for conservation and
revitalization of the architecture and community
along with its growth, which will in turn
support the strength of the community. Moreover
this is also helpful in solving the problems
of the nation, in the past, about dissipation
and wastage in economic terms.

Objectives
1. To produce Master degree graduates
with capability in handling cultural aspects
related to the way of life of the community,
in order to be able to perform their task
about conservation development and revitalization
of architecture and the community which are
in great demand by the society.
2. To promote the study, research and development
in the conservation and revitalization of
architecture and community in Thailand.
3. Using the appropriate knowledge and technology
to provide a stimulus in generating consciousness
in the value of conserving and revitalizing
architecture and community in Thai society.
Which is one of the paths in upholding and
preserving the national culture so as to be
in line with the economic and social conditions
perpetually.

Criteria
in the selection of applicants
Qualifications of applicants
1. Possessing complete qualifications
according to the Regulations for Graduate
study B.E. 2541 of the Rangsit University.
2. Completed a minimum of Bachelor degree
education in all majors from institution recognized
by the Ministry of University Affairs.
3. Those who have completed education in the
other majors shall be at the discretion of
the Program Committee.
4. Not afflicted with serious contagious diseases
or firmly established diseases specified by
doctors as constituting a hindrance to the
study or a menace to community hygiene.
5. Not insane or suffering from mental disorder.
6. No previous conviction for any criminal
offence except the offence for recklessness.
Criteria for Selection
Selection of the applicants will follow the
following criteria
1. Follow the detail qualifications
of the applicants.
2. The result of the entrance examination,
by written examination, presentations, interviews
and / or practical tests.
3. Result of examination in English in accordance
with the criteria set by the Graduate School
of the Rangist University.
