Welcome
to Thailand, “The Land of Smiles” and one of the most fascinating
places on earth. Fascinating because of its combination of Oriental
mystique with modern day technology. Fascinating because sometimes
it shows you the ancient days of Siam but then again, just around
the corner, presents itself as an ultra modern and highly sophisticated
society. Sometimes confusing but always intriguing, it makes
Thailand one of the most favorite destinations in the world.

Meet
the world in Thailand
“One
of the most challenging elements of my stay in Thailand was
to learn to get along with so many different people. I made
new friends from Thailand, China, Japan and Australia, as
well as from Europe. Now, in my daily life, this experience
still helps me to communicate and to deal effectively with
people from around the world.”

Thai
Culture
The
guest came down to the Reception and he was not in a good mood.
He arrived in Thailand late
the night before and requested a wake up call for they next
morning. The request was never registered; he overslept and
missed an important business meeting. He was definitely not
in a good mood! Upon spotting the first receptionist he started
shouting and demanding an explanation. To his absolute horror,
the girl began to smile, infuriating him even more. After which
he started shouting louder. And the girl smiled even brighter.
He never realized that this was just her way of apologizing
and saying “I’m sorry.” |

There
are many cross-cultural differences that make a country and
its people unique. And, as a guest in Thailand, it will help
you to know about some of the cultural differences. Let’s
start with just a few. The head is regarded as the most important
part of the body and Thai people will never touch anyone’s
head. The feet, considered the lowest part of the body and ‘dirty’ , are always kept
on the floor and pointing them in the direction of someone
is offensive. Generally, Thai people avoid physical contact
in public. Kissing someone in public is not done. Neither
is touching nor hugging which are familiar ways of greeting
in other countries.
